The Blue Heron Advisory Group has been a proud sponsor of the Belfry Theatre since 2013. As a professional adult theatre company, the Belfry is dedicated to producing contemporary plays, with an emphasis on Canadian work, and to promoting artistic, cultural, and educational events in the Greater Victoria Region. In the past 30 years the Belfry has produced 230 plays, including 158 Canadian plays, and more than 33 premieres. Many of those premiere productions have gone on to acclaim across Canada, in the U.S., Australia, Europe and London's West End. Belfry productions regularly tour to other cities and have won awards in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary. The Belfry produces up to 12 plays per year: one or two summer productions, a four play Mainstage series, and SPARK, a mid-winter festival of innovative and alternative work from across Canada. The Belfry's mission is to produce theatre that generates ideas and dialogue, and that makes the audience see the world a little differently.
The Blue Heron Advisory Group has been a proud sponsor of Community MicroLending since 2013. Community Micro Lending makes loans to people who have a good idea and the ability to carry it out, but don't qualify for credit at a bank. They work with people to develop a business plan and budget. Applicants make pitches the Community MicroLendings loan committee and it's usually an inspiring hour of Q and A. The loan committee deliberates and if it approves the loan, they post a profile on their lending page describing the applicant and the business. People read about the business and make a loan right there. Canada's first online peer-to-peer micro lending! Lenders can lend a minimum of $500 and when the loan is fully raised they disburse it to the borrower. The borrower repays Community Micro Lending and they repay the lender. And the local economy flourishes.
Neil sits on our Victoria Branch Miracle Day Committee and spearheads many initiatives throughout the entire year. In 2014, our Victoria branch raised $285,192.27 in trading commissions, fee based revenues and cash donations and every dollar will be directed to children's charities right here in our community. This also brings our branch running total to over $1 million raised since 2003.
Terri is a proud participator of "Paddle for Health" for four years running. Paddle for Health is a not for-profit team of volunteers dedicated to enhancing the lives of cancer patients and their families through paddle sport events and fundraisers. They are located in Victoria, British Columbia. Since 2008 a dedicated group of volunteers and participants has passionately combined their love for paddling with philanthropy through an annual fundraising event in the waters off Victoria British Columbia. In 2014 Paddle for Health was officially born; building on the tremendous success and popularity of our annual paddling fundraiser, they now promote healthy outdoor living through year-round paddling events. They are proud to partner with the Vancouver Island chapter of the BC Childhood Cancer Parents Association to benefit families of children living with cancer and blood disorders.
