I get sea-sick really easily. Truly.
It isn’t always the case, and it is not predictable, but it happens.
The first time was on a large naval ship off the coast of Halifax. I never considered becoming a naval officer before or after that. The next notable occurrence was on the world’s highest navigable lake in a small power boat. Lake Titicaca was smooth as glass that day, and yet it hit me.
The following day I took an overnight ferry on Lake Titicaca to Bolivia and I was fine.
Over the years it has never been predictable. Despite my difficulties with watercraft, I do not let it stop me from chasing great experiences.
Recently it occurred to me that the unpredictable and sometimes volatile world of investing requires similar intestinal fortitude. As an investor, to get to where I want to be, I have to accept that I will not always be comfortable. I’m okay with that because the ultimate outcome is so beneficial compared to the inevitable yet transient periods of discomfort.
Just as I fight the effects of being in a watercraft by focusing my eyes on the horizon, I do the same with my investments.
This year’s prediction:
Last year I wrote that I have no prediction for the stock market that year or any other year. Same thing this year. I just keep my eyes on the horizon on our way to greater prosperity
P.S.
