Back when I was a student at Saint Mary’s in the early 2000s, I had a friend named James. James was a good fella from Stephenville and everyone liked him. Now if he didn’t like you, it was a different story. I remember him telling one unwelcomed guest at a residence party “Mark, you’re like coleslaw - you’re always there but nobody wants ya”.

Now if James had one fault, it’s that he never knew when to leave the party. The rest of us would be gone home knowing we wouldn’t hear from James again until the following day. The next day we’d wait to find out if he needed rest, a ride, or bail.

This was a bit of a euphoric week on the market. A party, if you will, during an otherwise very difficult term. We went to the party last week and had a good time. The hard part now is knowing when it’s time to leave. My advice: don’t be like James…don’t overstay your welcome.
