On Wall street, the end of August is known for two things: the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium and an end of summer push.
First, the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium is an annual symposium in Wyoming that brings central bankers from around the world together to discuss various financial issues facing the economies of the world. It has a notorious history of being market moving, as it often brings about changes in global economic policy. There's lot on the agenda at this year's symposium, inflation is still running hot, and credit has gotten tighter than a double half-hitch knot.
The other thing that Wall Street is known for in late August is the annual migration to the Hamptons by analysts and brokers, as they escape for some R&R before getting back to their trading desks in early September. I am actually going to make a similar migration this August - we are headed to NYC for a week to take in our own R&R, but with one eye on the charts in case the Fed decides to shake things up in Jackson Hole.
Wishing you all a great end of summer. I'll be back in touch in early September!
