Many Canadian investors are challenged by a variety of issues such as high money management costs (often misunderstood or unknown) and unfulfilled opportunities due to lack of financial and estate planning.
With over 60 years of combined industry experience, Neil Pope, Rick Aulik and Susan Christie have developed an investment management practice that is ranked in the top two percent (by Vancouver Wealth Managers, an outside survey company) and they are consistently ranked in the top of their field in a comprehensive (biannual) CIBC Wood Gundy client survey. They currently manage in excess of $950 million of client assets.
Neil, Rick and Susan's objectives are simple; deliver above average returns and below average risk and cost. In addition, provide clients with professional and responsive customer service and comprehensive financial and estate planning.
From a portfolio standpoint, they utilize a model portfolio encompassing their top (blue chip) picks in various sectors of equity and fixed income markets. Depending on account size and your personal objectives, they use a combination of government and corporate bonds, high-yielding Canadian REITs, preferred shares, utilities, and individual Canadian and U.S. large cap common stocks, and low-cost exchange traded funds (ETFs). In addition, we are emulating many pension funds by using privately valued "pools" of mortgages, bonds, loans and commercial real estate.
Their investment methodology is somewhat ‘contrarian' and value oriented in that they overweight lower priced areas of markets. Over time, this has added to returns and decreased risk (by reducing exposure to popular, high priced investments that often tend to disappoint investors going forward).
They also practice a disciplined re-balancing strategy where a client portfolio's two main asset classes, equity and fixed income, are rebalanced back to desired weightings by selling one asset class at a high and buying the other asset class at a low.
Neil, Rick and Susan provide clients with a detailed and personalized (written) financial plan and monitor with you, projected account values vs. actual results. Personalized performance reporting (that compares your returns vs. benchmark index averages) is also provided at every meeting (and are attached to December statements annually). Clients leave the office with a future portfolio review meeting already pre-booked (ensuring ongoing personalized reviews). Meetings are available in person, "virtually" or by telephone.
