[Instrumental music begins playing and Nigel Seth appears onscreen.]
Hello, my name is Nigel Seth, and I am the Senior Associate Investment Advisor at the Schmidt Investment Group.
My journey began many moons ago in the northeast part of India, where I was born into a Roman Catholic family.
On my mother's side of the family, I have British, Irish and American lineage.
My name, Nigel Mervin Patrick Seth reflects some of this lineage.
My siblings and I were very blessed to have grown up in a gated community where I attended a boys only Catholic school and was educated by the Irish Christian Brothers.
My mother was a kindergarten teacher at the school and my father worked in the school office in bookkeeping and accounting.
My sisters went across the road to a Catholic convent where they were educated by the nuns.
Needless to say, our faith-based education was the prime focus growing up blended in with sports, which I was very passionate about.
My family and I moved to Montreal, Canada in 1987, where we joined my aunt, who had already resided in Canada for many years and was a teacher with the Montreal Catholic School Board.
Through a contact at my youth group at church, I was offered a summer job at CIBC Woody Gundy in 1988.
During my tenure at CIBC Wood Gundy in Montreal, I gained experience and exposure to various facets of the investment industry as I worked with the bond traders, new issue, credit and overall back-office administration that has served me well as a building block for the rest of my career.
Shortly thereafter, I segued into the retail client space where I worked with investment advisors and teams assisting retail clients with overall portfolio management.
With the mentoring of my branch manager, I honed my skills and knowledge base by acquiring various designations in the areas of portfolio management, derivatives trading and client service.
I moved to Edmonton in 2004 where I continued my career path with CIBC Wood Gundy as an Associate Investment Advisor.
Over the next years, I continued to deepen my knowledge base by acquiring premier designations in the areas of financial planning, trust and estate planning, portfolio management and institutional private money manager wealth management.
I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where I acquired the Certified Investment Management Analyst, or CIMA designation, which is recognized as a premier institutional and high net worth money management designation in the industry.
As a senior associate advisor at The Schmidt Investment Group, my mandate is to oversee the high net worth sleeve of our practice.
I look forward to meeting you and having the honour and opportunity to assist you and your family, simplify your wealth.
