Financial Management (25%)

  • Focus on providing an income stream for life in conjunction with growth to combat inflation
  • Ongoing monitoring & research of existing positions using internal and external sources
  • Extrapolating information to make assumptions about future market conditions in order to make prudent choices
  • Perform due diligence on any new investments made
  • Resetting and Rebalancing the Portfolio as needed
  • Regular semi-annual Portfolio reviews
  • Keeping informed on financial market and communicating current conditions to the clients.
  • Keeping current on investment industry education, new tax initiatives and any other changes that impact our clients.

Tax Management (20%)

  • Selecting Investments and Building Portfolios with Tax consequences being top of mind

  • Helping clients focus on important tax strategies (TFSA, RRSP & RESP contributions), income splitting and minimize taxable income.

  • Preparing Customized Tax Reporting documentation
  • Coordinating efforts with other tax and legal advisors to best serve the client’s interests

Client Counseling (30%)

  • Educating Clients about investments, opportunities and risks

  • Mindful of the client’s risk tolerance for investments and market fluctuations

  • Understanding family goals and objectives
  • Assisting clients with a financial plan and to constantly rework this plan to accommodate all life’s changes (marriage, children, death, illness, job loss etc.)
  • Assist in Prioritizing Financial Opportunities
  • Motivating Clients to make difficult decisions
  • Helping client’s visualize outcomes
  • Setting realistic goals
  • Keeping clients on task so their finances remain a priority
  • Providing an unbiased and fair view of their financial picture
  • Taking the emotion component out of the investing equation and talking to the clients about how to do this
  • Reassurance and support in dealing with difficult times personally and in the market
  • Regular semi-annual review meetings scheduled to fully analyze the accounts with the clients and make any necessary adjustments
  • Extra time spent with family members that may not be clients but will eventually be impacted by the portfolio responsibilities (i.e. Power of attorney responsibilities, Inheritance, Clients’ children to establish good financial life skills
  • Assessing Insurance needs (When additional coverage is needed, Life & Disability & Critical Illness and when are you over insured)
  • Assuring the client has an estate plan in place and that it will accomplish their goals to their heirs, business partners & charities.
  • Facilitating Business transitions as clients prepare to retire
  • Advising clients when it is time to have other professionals assist with their affairs due to complexity and needs; Accountants, Lawyers, Personal Bankers, Trustees, etc.
  • Explaining Fees and Costs

Seamless Account Administration (25%)

  • Providing personalized easy access to a team that is responsive to any questions or concerns
  • Quick and accurate responses to administrative requests (wires, cheques issued, contributions, address changes, statements explained, tax details)
  • Careful monitoring to ensure accounts operate as designed; money is available to RRIF payments, RESP withdrawals, EFTs.
  • Regular check in with the clients to ensure that their account information and documents are up to date and accurate.
  • Online Access – Ability to view overall accounts in a glance, follow transactions and learn more about individual investment positions.  Links to detailed firm research and articles of interest. Ability to combine Investment online with the CIBC bank accounts online access for quick and easy access to both.
