François has a B.A. in business from McGill University and has been working in the financial services sector since 1993. He currently serves as the treasurer of three large foundations and is an active member of his community.

For François, the relationship that he builds with his clients is extremely important. For that reason, he listens to each of his clients and establishes their profile and risk tolerance as per their objectives. Many of his tasks involve developing Investment Policy Statements (IPS), recommending proper asset allocations and selecting investment managers. François also deals with a lot of CIBC's partners to coordinate his clients' financial plans, as well as external notaries, lawyers, accountants and tax specialist.

Giving back to the community and philanthropy are very important for François. He has been part of the Toujours Ensemble non-profit organization's board for many years, dedicating both time and energy to this great cause.

He is a father of 3 young boys and loves spending time with them in search of new adventures.

Exclusive Solutions for Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Their Families

My name is François Guy, I am an Investment Advisor, First Vice President and Portfolio Manager at CIBC Wood Gundy in Montreal.

For over 25 years now, we have developed and refined a process that allows us to put together all the pieces of our clients' financial puzzle, and then accompany them through the evolution of their family. Over time, I have determined that the people with whom we develop the best affinity have one or more of the following three characteristics. The first is time. We all live crazy lives and people just don't have the time to dedicate and to keeping track of their financial assets. The second is expertise. People may have the time, but they just don't have the expertise it takes to manage a lifetime of savings. And then, the third is interest. People may have the time, they may have the expertise, they just don't have the interest that it takes to spend the time required to follow up on their financial wealth management. My team and I often define ourselves as a financial workbook. Basically, we use and manage all the resources at our disposal to coordinate and maximize the various financial aspects of our clients' lives. We really work with a select group of wealthy entrepreneurs and professionals who have a common goal. Often the goal is to sleep well at night. They know they can sleep well at night because they have the confidence that the strategies they have in place will help them achieve their financial goals. That may be having a comfortable retirement. For other people, it's having a little piece of paradise somewhere in the world, like the Caribbean. For some people, it's leaving a legacy for the second and future generations or a charity with estate planning strategies. Every family is different. For us, what we do is build personalized game plans tailored to each unique situation that will help them achieve their financial goals. To me, we run our small business like a family. Every member of the family is important, children and grandchildren also receive the same red carpet service because we offer a multi-generational advisory service.

What's interesting is that our clients will often tell us that we are like family to them. When we've been helping them with their financial decisions for 20 years and they tell us when they become grandparents, or that they sold their business, or any important moment/change in their life, I find that part of it really rewarding.
