Investment Management

Your investments should reflect more than where the markets happen to be today. They should reflect your goals, your time horizon and how much risk you’re actually comfortable carrying.

Markets move constantly, but decisions about your portfolio shouldn’t be made reactively. At Sherlock Wealth Management, we build portfolios around you—not a model portfolio applied to everyone—with the goal of designing a strategy to hold up across different market conditions, then monitored and adjusted as your circumstances and the markets change.

As a fee-only investment manager with discretionary authority, I can act on that strategy directly—rebalancing and making adjustments as needed—without requiring your sign-off on every transaction. That means you’re not left managing day-to-day decisions yourself, and because my compensation isn’t tied to which products I recommend, the incentives stay aligned with your interests.

Our Approach to Investment Management

Understanding your goals

We start with what you’re investing for, your time horizon, and how much risk you’re actually comfortable taking—not just how much you can theoretically absorb.

Building a personalized strategy

Your portfolio is built around your specific circumstances, not a generic model applied to every client.

Exploring more precise strategies

For clients who want it, we offer separately managed account (SMA) strategies that go beyond what pooled funds typically allow.

Ongoing monitoring and rebalancing

Markets shift. We monitor your portfolio and rebalance as needed, so it continues to reflect your strategy—not just recent performance.

Beyond mutual funds and ETFs

Many investors are used to pooled investment products. We also offer separately managed account (SMA) strategies, which allow for more precision than a pooled fund typically can.

It’s a way to move beyond a one-size-fits-all product and build something that reflects the complexity of your actual financial picture.

Other areas of focus:

  • Tax-loss harvesting at the individual security level
  • Careful management of low-cost-base positions
  • Direct donation of appreciated securities to charity

Unlike a mutual fund’s built-in management expense ratio (MER), the management fee on your non-registered accounts is generally tax-deductible as a carrying charge something embedded fund fees don’t offer. (Your accountant can confirm exactly how this applies to your situation.)

Staying disciplined when it matters most

It’s easy to stay disciplined when markets are calm. The real test comes when they aren’t. This is where our Process, Discipline and Patience (PDP) philosophy matters most: the process sets the framework, discipline puts it into motion, and patience is what long-term returns are actually built on.

We continue to review your portfolio against your goals—not the headlines—so decisions are made with a plan in mind, not in reaction to short-term noise.

We’re here to help you with the whole picture

Whether retirement is around the corner or still several years away, a conversation can help you understand where you stand and what decisions may be worth considering now.

To learn more about Sherlock Wealth Management’s services and how we can help you, you can schedule a meeting or start the conversation by asking us a question.

Wealth management should provide clarity, not confusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

A conversation may be worth having if:

  • Your portfolio hasn’t been reviewed in a while
  • You’re holding several small accounts without a clear overall strategy
  • You’re unsure how much risk you’re actually taking
  • You’ve had a major life change such as a business sale, inheritance, or retirement
  • You want more precision than a mutual fund or ETF typically offers

If this sounds like where you are, it may be time for a closer look at your portfolio.

Reaching out for the first time can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve never worked with an advisor before. It doesn’t have to be. An initial conversation is simply a chance to talk through where you stand today and what you’re trying to accomplish.

There’s no cost and no obligation. We’ll talk about your current situation, your goals and timeline, and answer any questions you have. From there, you can decide if it makes sense to move forward.

  • Your current financial picture
  • Your goals and what matters most to you
  • Questions you have about the process
  • What working together might look like

At Sherlock Wealth Management, our wealth management philosophy can be summarized in three key principles: PDP — Process, Discipline, and Patience.

Process: Creating the Framework
Our wealth management philosophy begins with a structured process that defines clear goals and strategies. This framework ensures that every decision is aligned with your unique financial objectives.

Discipline: Implementing and Following the Framework
Discipline is crucial for investing success, even when market conditions are challenging. By staying focused and consistent, we help you continuously progress toward your financial goals.

Patience: Understand that Success Takes Time
Investing is a journey, not a sprint. Patience is essential, as true wealth accumulation and financial growth take time. We guide you to remain committed, knowing that worthwhile achievements are often realized gradually.
