Ray Smallwood, B.Sc., CIM, FCSI, MBA, PFP
Investment Advisor
Ray has been with CIBC Wood Gundy since 1979. After a brief period in Toronto, Ray moved back home to the Maritimes where he worked in the Halifax branch for 2 years before being appointed Branch Manager of the St. John’s branch. After successfully managing the St. John’s branch for 25 years, he stepped down from the managerial position in 2007 and is now an Investment Advisor within the Smallwood Quinton Financial Group.
Ray has generally dedicated his business efforts to the development of a conservative, low risk, quality-oriented investment style. He believes that controlling risk will generally go a long way to avoiding mistakes and ensuring long term consistent investment performance.
Ray has served on a variety of charitable boards and task forces. He served as the Chair of the Corporate fundraising campaign for the new Ches Penney Family YMCA, and for over 10 years he has been the largest provincial fundraiser for the CIBC Run for the Cure. Ray has also served as co-chair for the $1.8 million “Dare to Care” fundraising campaign for Memorial University.
Ray resides in St. John's with his wife Cathy and their three children, who are all recent recipients of both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Ray's hobbies include reading, golf and downhill skiing.
Josh Quinton
Investment Advisor
Josh Quinton has been in the financial industry for the last 17 years, managing the U.S. east coast business in New York City of one of the largest financial technology firms delivering market news, data and analysis to the world. He moved home to continue his investment work at CIBC Wood Gundy. Josh is an award-winning global business manager, building analytics to bring transparency to the financial markets and advising some of the largest money managers in the world, including multinational corporations, foundations, pension funds, hedge funds, central banks, and heads of government.
In addition to volunteering with several other charities in Newfoundland and New York, Josh serves on the finance committee of the Grenfell Association of America in New York, which is committed to providing health care, education, and social services to the coastal communities of northern Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2017, he joined the board of the Shorefast & Shorefast social enterprise Inc, under the leadership of Zita Cobb. He helped establish the set-up of a state-of-the-art White Trading Lab at Memorial University. Josh was the recipient of Memorial's Alumni Horizon Award, and was appointed to the Innovation Council, Health Accord of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Josh grew up in the restaurant business in Newfoundland and is passionate about supporting local entrepreneurship as well as promoting self-sustainability and innovation in the province. Josh enjoys spending time with his family and Labrador Retriever Touton.
He holds a Master's degree in International Economics from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University of Newfoundland where he serves on the President’s Advisory Committee.
Matthew Smallwood
Investment Advisor
Matt has completed both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters of Business degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He spent time working with CIBC Wood Gundy during the completion of his B.Comm degree, focused on entrepreneurship, and writing his thesis report on the 2008 financial crisis. After graduating from his MBA, focused on finance, he spent several years in the construction industry, getting hands on experience in the residential and commercial real estate market in St. John’s.
Matt returned to Wood Gundy in early 2020 to join the Smallwood Quinton Financial Group, spending the first year working as a client associate learning the back end of our process, and is now working with the team as an investment advisor.
Matthew in his spare time is very involved with rugby in Newfoundland, currently as the captain of the Swilers Men’s rugby team, and volunteering to assist with the junior programs, along with club management. He has also spent time over the years volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society, Rotary Club, and CIBC Run for the Cure.
Perry Dawe, CPA, CFP®
Associate Investment Advisor
Perry is a dedicated financial professional with 10 years of experience helping clients achieve their financial goals. He began his career in the tax and accounting industry and earned the Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA®). In his role as a Senior Associate with some of Canada’s largest accounting firms, he developed valuable experience and skills that have driven his success and built lasting relationships.
His commitment to ongoing professional development led him to obtaining the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation and developing comprehensive expertise as a Financial Planner with a major Canadian financial services company. Throughout his career, Perry has gained skills at simplifying complex financial information and providing clear, straightforward advice that empowers clients to make informed decisions with confidence. He takes pride in knowing that his relationships are based on trust, transparency, and professionalism, and ensures his knowledge and strategies remain current and effective.
In his personal time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He enjoys getting outdoors with the family, a great cup of coffee and planning the next adventure with the kids.
Tracy Humber
Client Associate
Tracy joined the financial services industry in 1996 with another financial institution and transitioned to work with CIBC Wood Gundy, where she has excelled for the last 27 years. Tracy is responsible for the administrative and client services aspects of the Smallwood Quinton Financial Group. She has been noted for her excellent communication skills and pleasant personality.
Tracy specializes in helping clients with their immediate needs and is always available to answer questions and concerns. As a liaison, Tracy ensures that clients receive information in a timely manner. Tracy is a graduate of CONA, where she received her Architectural Engineering Technology Diploma in 1995. She is also very musical and currently lives in Flatrock with her husband Terry and acts as “momager” to the band Kitchin Parti made up of her son Tyler, daughter Terri Lyn, and son-in-law Justin.

Sarah counts over 10 years of experience as a Financial Advisor, where she worked in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. She is passionate about helping people meet their financial goals and is known for her approachable nature and dedication to providing professional and sound advice and service. Sarah is a graduate of the MUN Commerce program and has completed the CSC. She is a driven and supportive team player and looks forward to joining our Wood Gundy team.
Originally from Springdale, NL, Sarah loves spending her free time reading, volunteering in the community, getting outdoors with her husky Luna, and planning fun activities with her family.
Krysta Squires
Administrative Assistant
Krysta’s career in financial services began in 2013. She quickly gained a reputation for her friendly and efficient service. She is detailed oriented, and to succeed she has developed a high level of skill and persistence. She is a naturally quick learner and dedicated to ‘getting it right.’ Her upbeat disposition and positive attitude make her an especially valued part of the team in a fast paced and demanding environment.
In addition to making the world go round at the office, Krysta is a single mom of three amazing kids, a dog, and a cat. Her kids range from elementary school to university level, so as you might expect, she is a busy lady. Krysta’s creative side finds expression in reading, art, and road trips to new locations.
