Of course, my voracious thirst for distilling to the essence extends to the rest of my life as well. Cars, bicycles…all kinds of gear. What intrigues me is the perfect combination of design and performance. Performance is essential.
In my professional life, (dealing with stocks) I am buttoned-down, conservative and risk adverse. But in my personal life—man, I love busting boundaries. When you are on the back straight, on a track, doing 240 in a high-performance car, you face split second decisions, complex mental challenges with calculated risks that require you to be absolutely focused and dialed-in with full mental and physical acuity.
Focused and dialed-in applies equally to my ‘work family’ and my family at home. For Lisa and I, family is number one. My father was a keen athlete, so sports became a way for me to be hands-on with our two sons as well. I coached baseball, soccer, hockey, track and basketball and I loved every minute of teaching and motivating. I made sure everybody got to play and have fun as they learned teamwork and to take pride in their personal best.
Family. Context. High performance.
Add a good bottle of wine and that about sums me up.
