eric.elbers@cibc.comAfter completing a Ph.D. in geology at the Free University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Eric and his wife Jorien immigrated to Canada in 1971, where Eric started his career as a geologist with the Department of Mines in Manitoba. In 1979 Eric made an important career switch by joining Merrill Lynch Canada as a Financial Advisor, and has been in the investment industry ever since, accumulating over 33 years of experience helping his clients achieve their financial goals. In 1990, when CIBC Wood Gundy acquired Merrill Lynch Canada, Eric and Jorien decided to move West to beautiful Victoria, BC, where Eric rebuilt his business. From 1992 to 2011 Eric and Tim Crawford formed a business partnership in CIBC Wood Gundy. Since 2011 Eric has formed a business partnership with his son Adrian.
Eric holds the CIM designation (Certified Investment Manager) issued by the Canadian Securities Institute since 1993, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI). To earn the FCSI designation, the industry's highest mark of distinction, financial professionals must meet stringent standards for advanced education, experience, and ethical conduct. It is an honour awarded and entrusted by the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI), Canada's leader in investment learning.
Outside of work Eric and Jorien enjoy spending time with their three children and three grandchildren. Having lived in Victoria for over twenty years they have grown quite fond of this beautiful city and spectacular surroundings. Eric and Jorien enjoy the art scene in Victoria and actively support the Victoria Symphony as members of its Conductors' Circle. Eric is an amateur flautist. Hoping to improve his flute playing skills, he has enrolled as a student at the Victoria Conservatory. Eric has always enjoyed active sports in particular squash. However, after several decades of regular squash playing Eric has decided to hand his racquet over to Adrian, and now enjoys intensive yoga practice.
