How to Find an Advisor

Finding An Advisor

Finding the right investment advisor for you and your family is extremely important and one of the most important financial decisions you will make. We are committed to helping you find someone with whom you feel comfortable. If you are looking for help finding an Investment Advisor in the GTA, it would be a pleasure to help you find the Advisor at the Bay Street Branch who is right for you. After all, you don't want just anyone helping you manage your future.

Here are some questions to consider when finding an Investment Advisor:

Do I really need a financial advisor?

Yes. I honestly believe that every investor should rely on the expertise of a qualified Investment Advisor – No different than seeking the advice of a health, legal or accounting professional.

How do I get started?

Ask. You may find that your family members or colleagues are already working with an Investment Advisor. However, it's important to know that someone who is right for them may not be right for you.

Ensuring your IA's experience, personality and expertise aligns with what's important to you is an important first step. Interview possible candidates. Once you have identified a couple of possible Advisors, you should meet with them face-to-face and ask them about how they run their business. Some of the questions you may want to consider asking include:

  • What is your investment philosophy?
  • What other types of services over and above investment services do you offer (financial planning/ estate planning/ retirement planning)?
  • What is the cost for your services?
  • Is there a particular type of client that you work with (professional/ business owner/ retiree)?
  • What are your credentials?

Just as important as the questions you ask your potential advisor are the questions they're asking you. To be a great Investment Advisor he/ she needs a great listener, and someone who truly understands your goals and objectives and can help create a plan that delivers what you need to get there.

Can you help me find an Investment Advisor?

Definitely. The Bay Street Branch contains one of the strongest lineups of Investment Advisors. In order to provide you with holistic and tailored financial solutions, we have to get to know you first, so as part of the process, we will take the time to learn a bit about you — your investment experience, your risk tolerance, your goals and what's important to you – then I will suggest one or two possible matches. Here at Bay Street Branch, we won't just set up clients with the next available advisor. We want you to connect with them.
