Kara Baker, MBA, CFP®, CIM, CPA
Growing up in Saskatchewan, I learned fundamental values from my family and community - hard work, integrity, and resilience that shaped my outlook on life and finance today. By the age of 15, I was working in a local family business, and had already started a solid foundation of saving as a young investor.
Understanding the importance of education and persistence, led me to complete my Bachelor of Commerce at University of Saskatchewan followed by many top industry designations including my CFP, CPA, CIM® and eventually completing my MBA through Laurentian University.
Throughout my career, now spanning over two and half decades in wealth management I’ve had the privilege of many diverse experiences. I’ve advised many families and professionals in building their wealth and finances and I’ve also coached advisors and leaders in their practices and careers.
It’s easy to do something you love and find interesting, and I’ve been fortunate to do this for my entire career. Finance has always stimulated my curiosity. Even if I had never worked in this industry, I’d still be reading and researching markets, financial news and all the stuff many people find tiresome.
Ultimately, however, where I find most joy in being an advisor is helping people through their financial journey, and being that trusted expert, and that person they come to first when they need advice for their major milestones or challenges. I believe you need to care deeply for your clients, and work alongside and for them in navigating their goals and challenges.
Having been a trusted advisor, I’ve been fortunate to now developed many long-lasting friendships, and I often think of my clients as my extended family. I’ve grieved with clients, I’ve celebrated with them, and I’ve been there when they really need me. When you cherish the work you do and your clients, you really become a true trusted advisor.
