Keys to a Great Retirement
The financial industry talks about the financial aspects of retirement, and rightly so. But what makes for a truly great retirement, are you twice as happy with $5m versus $2.5m? What about the non-financial aspects?
Here is what we have learned from our retired clients that seem to be really enjoying their retirement. Call this a micro sample poll.
Here is the top 10!
- They had purpose, structure, and community when they worked and they have found a way to recreate that in their retired life, people need routine and to do something that they find worthwhile and meaningful even in retirement.
- They are involved with and in things that they love: family, charities, hobbies, sports, etc.
- They invest their time, talents and energy into their passions.
- They live within their means and as a result experience little, if any, financial stress.
- They have a glass half full attitude about life and they don't worry about the small stuff - this too shall pass is their mantra.
- They have little or no debt and understand that the "borrower is a slave to the lender".
- They understand that more money does not necessarily equal greater happiness.
- They value and invest in relationships.
- They keep flexing their "mental" muscle by continuing to learn new things like languages, hobbies, abilities, etc.
- They are thankful, don't sweat the small stuff, and realize that we are here for only a flicker.
Have a great week!
