Stefan Johnson, CFA

Stefan has over 20 years of financial services experience that spans across several wealth management areas including: investment management, intergenerational wealth planning, retirement income planning, risk management, tax planning, estate planning, alternative investments, charitable giving, and financial planning.
Stefan began his career with predecessor firms to CIBC Wood Gundy and worked in business development. In 1998 he joined the largest Canadian full service brokerage firm and worked as an Associate Investment Advisor and then as an Investment Advisor.
Prior to joining CIBC Wood Gundy in 2005, Stefan worked as an Analyst with an investment firm in Toronto that managed $1.3 billion of client assets. His main responsibility was providing investment analytic insights, acting as a liaison between portfolio management and regional Vice-Presidents across the country.
In addition to gaining valuable experience working with some of Canada's most respected money managers, Stefan attained the Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2004 and is a member of the CFA Vancouver Society. The CFA designation is the most comprehensive investment industry designation, and provides authentication for investors that the advisor is in a position to present expert advice to clients. Stefan is married to his wife Genevieve and they have two children. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, fishing, skiing , and playing hockey.
Sue Nelson
Associate Wealth Advisor
Sue has worked in the finance and wealth management industry for over 20 years and is registered with CIRO as a Registered Representative. She focuses on portfolio creation, retirement planning and investment management. Sue works closely with Stefan to implement investment strategies and provide personalized solutions for our clients to help them meet their financial goals. Sue is very passionate about helping others and providing trusted advice.
Outside of work, Sue enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, usually cheering on the soccer field. She also loves to be active, you may see her on a hiking trail or walking her puppy.
Michelle Gurr
Client Associate
Michelle Gurr is a client associate with CIBC Wood Gundy, joining the team in August 2021. She is a Registered Representative through CIRO, having completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and the Conducts and Practices Handbook (CPH). Michelle has over 15 years experience in administration and client facing roles, and her extensive background has given her an understanding of client needs and how best to service those needs. She is responsible for client outreach, client requests, and administrative tasks.
When away from work, Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband and four kids, exploring the beauty of Vancouver Island, camping, reading, learning French and Spanish, and participating in a variety of charity runs, including the CIBC Run for the Cure every October.
Kyle Bennett
Client Associate
Kyle is born and raised in Nanaimo. Being such, acquired his Bachelor in Business Administration at Vancouver Island University. Upon joining the team in June, 2023, he has since completed his registration with CIRO as an RR. He is currently well on his way through his next goal, the CFP designation, having registered for their Professional Education Program starting July 2nd, 2024. He is ambitious with his learning, passionate about helping others, and prides himself in being thorough and doing it right the first time.
When not working, Kyle enjoys taking advantage of what the island has to offer. He is no stranger to the endless hikes and outdoor activities available around Nanaimo. Otherwise, he loves to spend his time progressing his fitness goals, unwinding with a large jigsaw puzzle, or cooking delicious meals for him and his wife, Rebecca.
