Andrew McDonald, CIM
Senior Wealth Advisor, Portfolio Manager
Andrew’s career is built on relentless hard work and a passion for financial markets. Early in his career, he was known to work through the night – evidenced by him wearing the same suit two days in a row - immersing himself in portfolio construction and market research. Today, as the leader and Portfolio Manager of The McDonald Group, that same dedication fuels his mission to deliver thoughtful, strategic financial guidance to his clients.
He learned the value of client dedication and a strong work ethic from his mentor, Joyce, whose 35-year career shaped his approach to wealth management. Her lessons instilled in him a commitment to trust, long-term vision, and innovative thinking - all with a client-first focus.
Andrew holds a BA from the University of Toronto and the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designation. He is licensed in insurance and approved for options trading, and uses his knowledge to build specialized derivative based strategies. While his all-nighters are behind him, he remains deeply committed to staying ahead of market trends, often working late to connect with clients and catch up on research.
Having immigrated from Jamaica at a young age, he embodies the modern Canadian success story. This experience gives him gratitude and inspiration to be actively involved with initiatives such as the CIBC Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. He supports CIBC Miracle Day, youth financial literacy programs, Triple Threat girls' basketball, and local food banks. As a frequent speaker at MBA programs at the Schulich School of Business and the Rotman School of Management, he shares his expertise to inspire the next generation of financial professionals.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys traveling with his wife, Shawna, and their two children. He regularly hosts dinner gatherings for friends and family, valuing the connections that come from shared experiences. His passion for leadership extends beyond finance—he actively fosters teamwork, communication, and trust through workshops and team-building initiatives, principles that shape his approach to both life and business.
