AKSHAT SHUKLA: Technology is disrupting numerous well-established businesses today. We believe that in 70% of the cases, buying a security and holding it does not work. In order to profit from the markets, we need to be active. We track the dynamic flow of money between asset classes to determine demand and supply. We then utilize our macro navigation tool, which we also like to call GPS, to help us guide through the ups and downs of the markets.
We also have clearly defined, mathematically calculated rules around buying and selling of securities, which helps us keep an objective perspective of our portfolio. It also stops us from falling in love with a company. We then take all of this information and apply a barbell strategy to construct a portfolio where we buy assets that have either no or even negative correlations to each other, which helps us construct a portfolio that is lower in volatility than the overall markets, and it also provides peace of mind for our clients.

MILAN CACIC: One of the questions that we get from our clients sometimes is why we only do discretionary money management. The answer is simple. When I first started in the industry, in that first six or seven years, I lived through three different sector up and downturns. First, we had the oil market that rallied and broke down. Then we had a mining market, which included Bre-X, as many of you might remember, that rallied up and broke down. Then, of course, the big one was the tech market which rallied up significantly and then broke down.
In all three cases, many clients made lots of money only to give it all back because we all were emotionally tied to either the sector or the stock that made that money. What I learned from that was two things. One, we had to have a sell process that was data-driven to make sure that our emotions were in check, and we had to go discretionary money management for our clients to make sure that their emotions were held in check. That is why, today, we only do discretionary money management for clients.

MILAN CACIC: What is our commitment to you? First and foremost, it's full disclosure on fees and performance. We do this by providing a quarterly performance report that lays out exactly what your fees have been, as well as your performance. Regarding portfolio reviews and estate planning, when you come in and meet with us, we ask you how often you want to get together or if you want to do an estate plan. We know that every client is different and we want to make sure that we are meeting your expectations. On top of all that, we also provide a weekly update for the market by email, and we try and do a monthly conference call with our clients.
Most importantly, we have a no-voicemail policy. If you call during the day, if you call me, it not only rings on my line, but it rings on all of our team members' lines. I think that's important because there's times when you don't want a voicemail, or something is urgent and you need to speak to somebody, and we make sure that no matter what, during the day, you can get through to at least somebody on our team.
